Why SMM Collective?

How it all started...

Hi, I'm Emily.

We moved to Midland without knowing a soul. I didn't even see our home in person until the day before we got the keys. And let me tell you, being pregnant, walking into a home that needed as much work as ours did, my hormones may have gone a little crazy. I definitely cried in the shower that night trying to figure out how I'm going to manage it.

As the months moved closer to my due date, I started to remember how isolating it was with my first baby, being in a small town with no one around. The winter months came. The most snow I had ever seen in my life came. And all of a sudden I realized I needed more connection than what was happening inside my home. Someone to share the stories of the late night feeds, the what ifs, the 3am Google searches that probably didn't help anyone.

So come spring, I posted in a local group to see who'd be up for weekly walks. To meet moms in the same era of life, and maybe, just maybe, create a little village.

That's where SMM Collective started.

I remember how silly I felt making the group. And I remember exactly how I felt when it hit 25 members; amazed that there were that many people out there like me, quietly searching for their community.

The group kept growing. Events started to take shape. And now we're a community of 1,000+ moms across the Midland area who follow along, show up to events, and support each other through all of it.

Now we're taking it a little further. And we're so glad you're here for it. 💛

Our Story

SMM Collective started because one mom refused to accept that isolation was just part of the deal. Emily Seguin moved to Midland pregnant, not knowing a single person. She made it through a snowy first winter with a newborn and a toddler before deciding something had to change. She posted on Facebook looking for moms to go on walks with. Within days, the group had grown past 25 members.

Three years later, SMM Collective has grown into Midland's home for moms. We've run 43+ events and partnered with 40+ local businesses who share our belief that this community is worth investing in. We're building the infrastructure to make sure this community is here for the long run and we're just getting started.

Built to scale community, not just manage it.

We're also building something new! A formal partnership program connecting local Midland and surrounding area businesses directly with our mom community in a way that gives both sides real value. Think exclusive member perks, local business spotlights, and a network that keeps dollars in our community. Keep your eyes open for our November 1 launch.

Our member portal gives each mom a personalized dashboard showing her membership status, monthly partner perks, and upcoming member-only event access. Members redeem perks in person through a QR code system that generates a unique scannable code directly from each member's profile; no paper cards, no manual check-ins. Everything is backed by a custom CMS that Emily manages directly, making it possible to run a 1,100+ member community without a full-time tech team.
